Yoga has many benefits for the body, mind, and spirit, and can be exceptionally beneficial for promoting optimal fertility. Yoga poses that support fertility optimize blood flow to the reproductive organs and reduce stress.
The poses in yoga increases blood circulation, metabolic function, immune system boosting and
The poses also focus your mind on body posture and alignment, concentration on breath and
movement synchronization, and balance and proprioception.
Yoga poses may also help to elevate the spirit by increasing endorphins, switching the body
from sympathetic nervous system responsible for fight or flight, to the parasympathetic nervous
system which is responsible for rest and digest.
Most yoga classes will start with grounding breathes and poses to center and calm the mind
before diving into the more active, demanding poses. And most yoga classes end with a 5 to 10
minute rest, called savasana or corpse pose, which allows the body space and time to recover
from the vigorous movements of the mind and body.
The beginning and end of a yoga class allows a checking in of yourself to ask how you are
feeling, what you are feeling and acknowledgement and acceptance. Becoming aware of the
present moment allows an expansion of the spirit to become one with the mind and the body, so
that they all are on the same page.
Yoga Poses to Promote Fertility
Specific poses in yoga are quite beneficial for the reproductive organs. These organs are
located near the Sacral Chakra, svadisthana, a few inches below the belly button. The mantra
for this Chakra is “I feel, therefore, I Create”. The color associated with the Sacral Chakra is
orange. The organs associated with the Sacral Chakra are the ovaries, sexual organs, skin,
kidneys, spleen and urinary bladder. Interestingly, with Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine,
sexual and reproductive function is associated with the Kidney and Urinary Bladder Meridians.
Lower abdomen opening poses, such as Cobra pose, Up Dog pose, Sphinx pose, Locust pose,
Bow pose, Bridge pose, Wheel pose, Camel pose, and Cow pose are all wonderful for
increasing energy and blood flow to the sexual and reproductive organs for increased fertility.
Also, yoga poses that open the hips are beneficial for increasing energy and blood flow to the
sexual and reproductive organs. Happy Baby pose, Frog pose, Pigeon pose, Yogi Squat pose,
Triangle pose, Pyramid pose, low lunge pose, Lizard pose and Warrior 2 pose are all wonderful
hip opening yoga poses.
